HBO does a great job at making hit shows based on book series. There are times when they do stay away from the written story and go on their own path. True Blood had major changes from book to show. What I’m wondering is, if Game of Thrones will make some changes in their upcoming season or stay true to the book.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but major characters die. Story changing characters, which we followed from the first episode meet their end in this season. Now the thing is do they do it? Do you kill off these characters, or find a way to keep them alive to keep them in the show.
So far they have been dead on from book to show. When I was reading the book after watching the first season, I can tell when each episode ends. Even the dialogue in the show is what was written in the book.
It’ll be interesting to see where they go with this season. I think they will kill off the characters because I don’t think they can keep them alive because their death inspires so many more things than them being alive.

I doubt they’ll change things as much as with True Blood. True Blood is a bit exceptional.
I read the books before watching the show and was ASTOUNDED by the first season, which is one of the best movie adaptations of a book I’ve ever watched.
But second season added and changed a lot of things I didn’t like. In season 1 they would add things, too, but they would be progressive things that told a bit more about characters. In season 2 there was a lot of mindless fanservice and stupid changes. (Arya in Harrenhall, Daenarys and Jon Snow were all done a disservice by their attempt at fan service.)
Sansa especially has been totally screwed over by the HBO show.

Theon does have his own scenes now. I don’t remember him having a part in book 3. I think they just said he was captured and never spoke of it. True Blood they changed EVERYTHING about the book to that show. And yes you were right the first season was dead on with the books. They’re mixing in some parts from book 5. So the Theon scenes are correct, just two books “too early” since the chronology in the books is kind of screwed up x)

what i dont understand and i’m spoiling this for myself but why did that guy let Theon out if he was jsut going to recapture him? he let him go, killed a few dudes, just to bring him back? it just seems really odd to me that he went through all that trouble for nothing. maybe just to screw with him? or is there a bigger plan at work.

I honestly have no idea. It seems a lot of stuff in game of thrones happens for the heck of it. The hound is a great example : P

i hope not because i don’t want to see the show just start creating situations like that where things just happen for no reason. and yea you were right about the hound too. he’s just there now randomly. i want to see The Mountain come back

Mmh, the mountain doesn’t do a lot though. I was saddened by the development of the hound because he started out with so many interesting possibilities 😛

the show does a terrible job of creating cool characters and then not giving them any face time. my favorite character was Jamie and he only fought once in season 1 and then was locked up for most of season 2…and now he has 1 hand so he doesnt seem like hes going to be doing much

Well, with Jaime they’re just following the plot. he was captured and that’s really that. And he isn’t a narrator until the third book. The problem with Jaime, though, is that they made him kill his own cousin.

yea i know theyre going along with the books with Jamie, i just wished they went in a different direction. he’s the best swordsman in Westeros and he only gets to kill one guy in the whole first season. and in season 2 hes sitting most of it. and now he wont be doing much figthing now

He’ll probably learn to use his left hand. I think going in a different direction than the books has already proven to be a wrong choice with this show – as we can see with Dany and Jon, they just don’t do it that well. But they could have shown Jaime on the battlefield.

i remember in the first book Tyrion was supposed to have a battle scene but instead one of his wildlings accidentally hit him in the face knocking him out. And yes they defiantly should’ve shown Jamie in season 1 when he was taken. They said he killed 6 guys before they captured him. It would’ve been cool to see that. And Jon and Dany are just in the middle of nowhere doing nothing. But i think Dany will save the day in the upcoming seasons when the White Walkers invade if they do at all.

She probably will, or her character has no purpose 😛 Obviously the person who sits the throne is going to be the one fighting off the wildlings.
I was very disappointed at that scene with Tyrion as well!! That is his moment to shine.

what do you think about Jon? i dont believe for a second that he’s going along with the Wildlings. I’m writing about that soon, but in it i was going to say how if Jon betrays the nights watch then he’s betraying all of Westeros. because the wildlings and whitwalkers will destroy everything starting with the north. so he would be betraying “everyone” for the girl? i just dont buy it

I won’t give you my opinion on Jon 😛 I’ve read the books up until book three so I know how that one ends, and I would hate to spoil you. BUT I can say that before I’d read the end I was thinking the same thoughts as you – but I was also very doubtful. I don’t think Ygritte is the only thing about the wildlings that appeals to Jon. It’s the whole freedom thing. So his choice is between duty and freedom.

i guess there’s more than just her, but i remember when he was talking to the head guy and he brought up that story with the guy marrying his daughters and throwing his sons to the white walkers. and he killed his uncle i think it was? at the end of the 2nd season. it just seems like all that was for nothing if he has really turned to their side

it might have been his uncle. when jon was captured in season 2, there was another nights watch man with them. and he knew if he was brought back to the wildlings camp he would be tortured for information so he pretended to have a fight with Jon so jon can kill him and the wildlings will respect him more. and after he did it they took off jons bindings.

That’s not his uncle, it was some big general. That whole thing wasn’t handled very well by the show. In the book it’s very noble while Jon is just useless in that part since he wanders about in the snow with Ygritte, leading to the death of his brothers.

the thing i hate the most about the show is that it creates way too many characters with all these storylines. even the minor characters get alot of screen time. Joffery’s soon to be wife had a big section of the first episode while Jamie and Arya had to wait till episode 2. i guess it could be used to increase the episodes of the series and extend the show in total because they only have so much time.

I think they just want to make the show seem fuller. They want to explore things that the books did not. But I agree. I dislike when there are so many characters because you loose sight of where things are going.

yea we barely see Rob anymore and he has one of the most important storylines in the show. hes fighting a war that will shape all Westeros. but this is what i absolutly hate about the show. Kings Landing is way too easy to take. i wrote something about it on the site already, but Stannis couldve taken the kingdom and Drogos people can take it. but isnt kings landing the main place? so shouldnt it be the most heavily guarded impenetrable castle to take?

Well, history will be history. Winterfell also isn’t very well guarded. King’s Landing probably wasn’t build that way because it was build by targaryans, right? They had dragons. They didn’t need walls.
And that’s the whole point of suspense in the story. if King’s Landing is easy to take by arms, it makes the politics all the more wavering.

it was so terrible when it happened. it was probably worse than the book portrayed it. And what do you mean you haven’t watched the third season haha well heres the recap…jamies doing nothing as usual, sansa is always crying about something, tyrion is taken a step back and bron doesnt exist anymore

now Jamie is my favorite character. i predict that he will become the kind of man his father needs him to be. Responsible, a leader, and bring his family to victory. Am i right in that prediction or does Jamie simply die in a boring way haha and does theon gets castrated? i just have to brace myself for something like that seeing

I haven’t read beyond book three, so I don’t know, but I imagine Jamie will be continually alienated from his family, especially Cersei. Theon, as far as I know, goes mad 😛
