Star Trek Into Darkness

This is one of the best movies of the year. Probably a snub in the upcoming Oscars, but should be considered. Into Darkness takes the Starship Enterprise on its most dangerous mission ever, bringing a terrorist to justice.

John Harrison started a one man war against the Federation and his motives why become clearer as the story progresses. His actions are brutal and his plan is carried out without a hitch. Harrison is a member of the Federation and after causing a bombing in London the Federation has a meeting to plan their next course of action.

Harrison foresaw the meeting taking place and was ready….with a fighter craft armed with machine gun turrets. James Kirk was in the meeting when Harrison attacked the members. After seeing his predecessor die before him, Kirk requested permission to take out Harrison himself.

Harrison fled to Kronos, a planet in Klingon territory. The Federation stayed as far from the Klingons are they could. The Klingons were looking for any excuse to start a war with the Federation. Kirk had an unexpected visitor, Carol, a woman ordered aboard by Admiral Marcus. Accompanying her is 72 Photon torpedoes. They are so highly unstable that engineer Scotty would rather resign than be on a ship with those torpedoes.

On Kronos, Kirk and his fellow cadets are ambushed by the Klingons. They were almost killed if John Harrison didn’t appear and save the day. He killed all the Klingons almost single handedly and immediately surrendered when he learned the 72 torpedoes were onboard the Enterprise.

Explaining the movie further would only spoil it for you. Benedict Cumberbatch plays John Harrison and brings so much life to the character than an Oscar nod isn’t ridiculous. The only impediment to that happening was I don’t think he received enough camera time.

The movie is very face paced and filled with so many twists and turns that you don’t want it to end. That was the only problem I had with the movie, is that it had to end sometime. The movie ends with the Enterprise taking its 5 year course around the galaxy, just like the original TV show.

I doubt a TV show will happen, but it should. The fan base needs a new show like this and the direction it would take could bring in a new series of audiences. The movie itself took a very interesting turn from the original.

This movie gets a well-deserved 5/5. Into Darkness is one of the best movies you can see this year. This is defiantly one of my favorite movies of all time.

I just loved the movie and saw it in 3D. We plan on going back to see it again. I am a huge Star Trek fan and felt we were short changed when the original series was cancelled far too early. I do hope there are more movies to continue with the story line.

they should continue the series. they had a great starting point. i would be surprised if the director doesnt want to write a tv series for this.

That would be wonderful! The original series was cut short when it was cancelled. I would love to see what this director would do with a tv series.

if you look at how it ended with Kirks speech, it sets up for a tv show more than another movie.

Thanks for the tip. We are planning on going to the theatre to see it again – I will pay more attention to his final speech. I would love to see a new tv series since they are starting their five-year exploration.

the ending speech was kirk saying the “space the final frontier” one. and when he’s done the doctor looks over and says “5 years of this? i’ll go mad” or something like that. but either ways its defiantly worth seeing again haha

Yes, we went back yesterday to see the movie. Glad we did since there was so much going on. Did you hear that there is going to be a mini-series of DS9 with some cross-over from TNG. Who knows maybe that will open the door for more Star Trek on TV.

i havent watched many of tng or ds9, but i watched the origional series on netflix. they might as well do the origional because they already started it with the movies. eventually they should make a new series because there were so many not even a few years ago

TNG was really good – very different than TOS. I never watched DS9 but am interested in seeing where they go with this mini-series. A remake of the original would be wonderful since the 1960’s technology was limited – though a great starting point for other Star Trek series / movies.

  2. I think that the foundation for a new TV series is perfectly set up, hopefully, maybe with a new crew in the spirit of Firefly.

I certainly hope we get a new show, too, though not necessarily set in Abrams’ new timeline. I’d be happy with either timeline, especially if the show was on cable, where it could get better funding and plot arcs. Here’s hoping.

and since they based the last movie on wrath of khan they can always use material from the original series. it just seems pointless to not make a new series. especially with all the other crap out there.

  4. Nice review! I think you’re right about the pacing and Cumberbatch really does deserve a nod at the awards.

yea he did a great job in the movie. but like i said i think he will be snubbed. and he shouldnt be. i hope they make another one and follow the Wrath of Khan type idea. they didnt kill him in the end and he is only bound to wake up out of his sleep.
